What is a Hikvision thermal camera?

A Hikvision thermal camera works differently than a standard security camera. Instead of visible light, the camera records heat differences. People, vehicles and animals emit heat, making them clearly visible even when it is pitch black or weather conditions are poor.

A Hikvision thermal imaging camera is not designed to recognize faces, but to reliably detect movement and temperature differences. This makes these cameras particularly suitable for securing grounds, business premises and critical infrastructure.

Why choose Hikvision thermal imaging cameras?

Hikvision is known for its reliable technology and smart software. This is also reflected in their thermal cameras. Some key advantages:

  • Always visibility, 24/7
Darkness, rain, fog or smoke? No problem. The camera continues to work where ordinary cameras fail.

  • Fewer false alarms
Thanks to smart detection, the camera distinguishes between people, vehicles and, for example, moving branches.

  • Ideal for large areas
Think of business parks, solar parks, ports or warehouses where lighting alone is not enough.

  • Privacy-friendly
Because no recognizable images are captured, a thermal camera is often easier to deploy within privacy guidelines.

That gives peace of mind. You know you're not missing anything, even outside office hours.

Thermal camera Hikvision

Most of Hikvision's thermal cameras can accurately measure temperature to a few degrees. Do you want an even more accurate measurement, such as for fever detection? Then you're better off choosing a special fever screening camera. This type of camera gives very accurate results thanks to its patented temperature algorithm. Moreover, with such a thermal camera from Hikvision, you can measure the body temperature of dozens of people simultaneously. This allows you to map persons with elevation easily and without inconvenience in large spaces.

This makes Hikvision thermal cameras suitable not only for security, but also for specific applications such as health checks in public areas.

Applications in practice

A Hikvision thermal camera is often deployed in places where reliability is crucial.

Example 1: business park
Imagine a large business park with multiple entrances. At night, the site is deserted and poorly lit. A thermal imaging camera immediately detects a person entering the site even before they get close to the building.

Example 2: warehouse or production hall
In large indoor spaces, a thermal camera can help detect unwanted presence or even overheating of machinery. Thus, the camera contributes to both security and safety.

Differencesbetween models

Not every Hikvision thermal imaging camera is the same. There are models that focus primarily on perimeter security, and variants that take temperature measurements. Important differences are in:

  • Measuring range and accuracy

  • Combination with an optical (normal) camera

  • Suitable for indoor or outdoor use

  • Specific software for detection or analysis

This may sound technical, but don't worry: in our showroom we explain it step by step, tailored to your situation.

Advice and demonstration in Gorinchem

Are you unsure which model best suits your situation? That is quite normal. Thermal camera security is customized. In our showroom in Gorinchem we are happy to show you how a Hikvision thermal camera works and what you can expect in practice. So you can experience with your own eyes what thermal imaging technology does.

Frequently asked questions about Hikvision thermal cameras

What is the difference between a thermal camera and a regular security camera?

An ordinary camera uses visible light; a thermal camera measures heat. As a result, a thermal camera works even in complete darkness or bad weather.

Can a Hikvision thermal imaging camera recognize faces?

No, thermal cameras are not designed for face recognition. They detect heat and motion, which actually makes them privacy-friendly.

Are thermal cameras suitable for indoor use?

Yes, definitely. They are often used in warehouses, production halls or large public areas.

How do I connect a Hikvision thermal camera?

You can do so over a network (IP camera). They are often connected to an NVR or security system. We are happy to help you with this, from advice to installation.

How can you reset a Hikvision thermal imaging camera?

Usually you reset the camera with the reset button on the housing: disconnect power, hold down the reset button, power on and hold for 10-20 seconds until the camera reboots. Then it is back to factory settings (password and network data are erased). If you can still log in, resetting can also be done via the System > Maintenance > Factory Defaults menu. If you have lost the admin password, then additional recovery via Hikvision software is sometimes required.
